Football Season Restarts

The new season has restarted for the football club, with a consolidation meaning we have reverted to running six sides, although we hope a side effect to be the revival of the Veterans side.

The 1st team continue in the Amateur Football Combination Premier Division, the highest standard of amateur football in the Home Counties area, and hope that last season's struggles against relegation will be a thing of the past.

Lower down, the 2nd team's season will be dependent on whether players are called up to the 1sts. We hope for a good influx of players from last year's highest UCL student teams, but much depends on whether they're in London, and whether the pressure of new jobs allows them to play regularly on a Saturday.

The core of the 3rd and 4th teams have effectively been combined, hence the club losing a side. Both had been playing at a high standard for those levels of teams, and the summer saw quite a few retirements, generally due to the pressures of family and work life.

In the lower half of the club, we've already seen a good influx of keen players to bolster the 4ths, 5ths and 6ths, all welcome as the lower two sides had been struggling in past seasons.

The Accies may be going through a transitional phase, as many of the stalwarts of the last ten years fade away, or drift into Veterans football, but it's good to have so many keen youngsters on board, who hopefully will form the nucleus of the club for the next decade.
